It’s an  outlet store, so pricing can go from $1 pieces of clothing piled in giant cardboard boxes to $29.99 on the racks. If you’re  lucky you might arrive when they’ve opened the back warehouse room to the public. Then men, women and children might score their well-made clothing for the amazing price of $1-$3. The Soffe juniors’ line has been strong in the brand’s cheer-leading apparel but has expanded to include  yoga, dance and running. Be sure to check out their performance wear, which features technical fabrics.

Their outstanding quality stems from their roots as a distributor to the military. This line is tough, durable and dependable, and it is designed to channel America’s original athlete: the soldier.

Pumpkins have many uses…as jack-o’-lanterns ,  for baking muffins or pies and believe it or not as a projectile at the signature pumpkin-launching event held each year since 1986. The World Championship Punkin Chunkin is where “backyard engineers” test the limits of pumpkin physics,  fueling innovative engineering and science-based ideas all through a three-day festival in Bridgeville, drawing thousands of visitors to the area and is aired on the Discovery Channel every Thanksiving.

Teams compete in divisions such as air cannon, centrifugal, catapult, human power, trebuchet, theatrical and torsion. The competition is divided into three classes: Adult (18 and older), Youth (11 to 17) and Youth (under age 10).

Each category shoots 1 of their 3 competition shots each day. The firing of machines starts at 8am each day and continues until dusk. There will be a Cookin’ contest,  a Punkin Chunkin Pageant, an Outlaw Punkin Chunkin Chili Cookin Competition and  awards ceremony, also local bands will provide live music on stage throughout the 3 days of the festivities.

For some Halloween ghouly delight check out the popular Graveyard Shift Ghost Tours at the Mark Twain House. eerie enough to have been featured on SyFy Channel’s acclaimed paranormal series Ghost Hunters and the Biography Channel’s My Ghost Story, bringing their investigative teams to the house.

Prior to the tour, a short film will be shown: Ghost Tour, which was filmed in The Mark Twain House. On the tour participants will hear creepy tales and stories of spirits that surround The Mark Twain House and learn about Twain’s own interest in the supernatural.

Filled with haunted history, dark tales and Victorian traditions encompassing seances and spiritualism, these nighttime tours are as educational as they are goosebump-inducing.

The tours sell out fast and are only offered seasonally, so be sure to make your reservations.
