Canada: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario – Traversing Canadian Locks

The Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site’s lock system was completed in 1895 and at the time was part of the world’s longest lock. It was the first to operate with electrical power electricity generated on site in a powerhouse. It was also the first to use an emergency swing bridge dam to protect the lock in case of emergency. Since 1998 the lock has been use for recreational vehicle use only – and is Free to go through.

You can go back in time with costumed waitresses serving a scrumptious High Tea. Enjoy the view facing the Sault Ste. Marie Canal National Historic Site. Believe or not, traversing the canal locks on the Canadian side of the border is absolutely Free.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is dedicated to all things hockey including the history of ice hockey, and exhibits about players, teams, National Hockey League records, memorabilia and NHL trophies, including, of course the Stanley Cup.

The CN Tower in Toronto, completed in 1976, is 147 stories high. You can go up and look out on the observation deck on the 114th floor. CN stands for the Canadian National Railway, since the tower was built by the company and is located on former railway land. It remains the signature icon of Toronto’s skyline, with more than 2,000,000 visitors zipping up it every year.

France, Paris: Liberty Leading the People in the Louvre

Though foreigners flock to see the Mona Lisa, to the French, the most important painting in the Louvre – the unofficial national painting of France is this one, Liberty Leading the People by Delacroix. The bare-breasted female figure, who is called Marianne became a symbol of Liberty for the French Republic. Though Delacroix painted the July Revolution of 1830, the broken bodies beneath the flag depict the 40 years of civil war, political and social upheavals necessary to conquer the monarchy in order to win a representative government. The huge 8′ by 10′ scale adds to the dramatic patriotism.

The Ormond Beach Community Day is a fun filled event for the whole family. All the fun takes place on Saturday, September 29th from 11am to 4pm at Destination Daytona.

In the spirit of this tradition, the Flagler Museum invites all mothers and their families to enjoy a Mother’s Day weekend celebration in the Café des Beaux-Arts. In honor of Mother’s Day, each mother will receive a special flower corsage.

The Museum’s Café des Beaux-Arts will open specially for Mother’s Day weekend on Saturday, May 12th, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, and Sunday, May 13th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. US: Greenland, NH – More Than 500 Home Made Pies are Sold to Make Money for Charity

Doors open to the 27th Annual Greenland Craft Fair & Pie Sale on November 19th, where each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving you can find a line of people waiting at the Greenland Central School.Apple Pie2017-10-03_11-12-08

Over 500 pies are sold (and eaten!) and  the Woman’s Club mans the cafe with home cooking. Expect to see more than 100 talented artisans and crafters including edibles, fiber artisans, jewelers, and many others will be selling their wares.

Hosted by the Greenland Women’s Club, a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Fair raises funds that are used for a variety of local, national and international charitable purposes supported by the GWC.
