US: Palm Beach, Florida – Henry Morrison Flagler Museum
Here is the magnificent ballroom of the Flagler mansion, in its heyday and today. You can see carved moldings, electric chandeliers, arched doorways and windows and polished wooden floors.
Canada: Ottawa, Ontario – Largest Turtle Skeleton
This is the skeleton of the largest turtle that ever existed – an Archelon. Instead of a solid shell, it had an open framework of struts covered by a thick coating of rubbery skin. This allowed him to swim more efficiently. You can see it at the Museum of Science and Nature in Ottawa.
Canada: Ottawa, Ontario – Queen’s Lantern
In the magnificent Queen’s Lantern, the glass open space at the top of the Museum of Nature, what looks like a giant jellyfish is hanging. You can see it from afar outside the museum, and inside as you navigate between floors. The windows with stone dividers provides a beautiful view both of the outdoors and inside the museum.

At the Nature Museum, you can find this scale model of Grandfather Mountain, which is one of NC’s top scenic attractions. The museum houses more than 2 dozen exhibits about the natural history of the area, and there is a nature conservancy on the grounds.

US: Boca Raton, Florida – Death Ball
On August 16, 1920, Ray Chapman, the Cleveland shortstop, was accidentally hit on the head by a ball pitched by New York’s Carl Mays, and he died the next day due to severe brain damage. This is the ball, which can be seen at the Sports Memorabilia Museum in Boca.
US: Modena, New York – Ice Cream’s Best Before Date/Time
Look at how insanely precise our food safety rules have become. This pinwheel ice cream sandwich from Carvel, not only has a best-before date, it has a best-before time. Will I get sick if I eat it at 4:59 pm? It’s ice cream – you couldn’t save it in the car and eat it later (3 months later) even if you tried to. Found at Modena New York State Travel Plaza Center at milepost 65 southbound on New York State Thruway.

Montreal Steak Spice is a famous blend of spices that takes steak to a new level, but can also be sprinkled on chicken, pork, hamburgers and now even potato chips. We found this bag at Le Panier, the fabulous gift shop at 300 Bord du Lac (Lakeshore Rd) in Pointe Claire.
