Expanding the cache in Delaware

Due to the popularity and success of the original Delaware Geocaching Trail launched in October 2009, DTO partnered with the geocaching community, Delaware State Parks, and statewide attractions to add 50 new sites to the Trail.

Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.  The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.

In addition to historical, art, and cultural attractions, geocachers can now continue their quest to find the cache at state parks, sports venues, wineries and breweries.

Delaware attractions have indicated an increase in visitation as a result of the Trail.  To date, 7600 geocachers have logged in at statewide geocaching sites. One out-of-state geocacher brought 15 people to experience the trail and raved about it, reportedly spending $100 at the Lavender Fields Farm.

The expanded Delaware Geocaching Trail features 75 cache locations throughout the state. Treasure hunters utilize code words to log visits.

The first 200 geocachers to obtain code words at 24 cache locations (8 from each county) will receive a limited-edition Delaware Geocaching Trail coin.

The coins are going fast!  Don’t miss the opportunity to acquire this treasured keepsake!
