DE: One of JFK’s Last Public Appearances

DE: Mile 5 Nbound and Sbound, Delaware Welcome Center Travel Plaza – One of  John F. Kennedy’s last public appearances, on Nov 14, 1963, was a ribbon cutting ceremony for this piece of I-95. Look for the short video of it in the new Delaware Welcome Center (or click on the youTube below).

You can stop in this new, LEED certified rest stop for motel coupon booklets, clean restrooms, an ATM and wifi. There’s a visitor’s desk (Mon-Thurs 9-6, Fri-Sun 9-8) with traveling info (weather, traffic, car trouble, motels) and lots of brochures for DE, NJ, PA, MD, VA & DC.

You can see photos of state attractions, shop made-in-Delaware items or use Internet access stations. There’s a pet walk and picnic tables where you could enjoy the food options: Starbucks, Cinnabon, Burger King, Carvel, Baja Fresh, Popeye’s Chicken, Famous Famiglia pizza,  and Brioche Dore.
