picture 1 – Camden House; England, dated 1838; Private Collection: This house includes all its original furnishings, including a copy of T. Goode’s miniature edition of The History of England (1837). Camden, now part of London proper, was in 1838 a suburb with housing developed for working people. The Cratchet family of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol (1843) lived in Camden. The house first came to America in 1964.

When it was owned by pioneering dollhouse collector Vivien Greene, the house included a clockwork (wind-up) ghost. The ghost intrigued the young Prince Charles when he saw the house in the first (1955) major exhibition on the subject of early dollhouses.

RI: Real Human Bodies Teach You About Your Body Inside and Out

Providence, RI Exit 22ABC: Experience your body like never before at the Body Worlds Vital traveling exhibition, seen by over 40 million visitors around the globe. and now on display at the Providence Museum Gallery at the Rhode Island Convention Center.body-works-vital-ri

Featuring authentic human bodies, this awe-inspiring exhibition educates visitors about anatomy, physiology and health. The bodies tell the story of the human body in states of health, distress, and disease with over 200 specimens and 13 full plastinated bodies on display. These detailed anatomical studies, compositions, and representations allow visitors a penetrating gaze at what lies beneath the skin: the design and function of the human body.

The bodies on display are preserved through the revolutionary science of plastination invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens. Bodily fluids and fat are extracted then infusing plastic to replace them, allowing visitors to see the inside of the human body.

Exhibits present the most current information about common diseases. Healthy and diseased organs are set side by side, allowing  comparisons of healthy organs to lungs diseased from smoking and a liver damaged by alcoholism. Visitors see first hand
the long-term impact of our lifestyle choices, diseases and addictions affect our health and vitality.  You can even study the mechanics of prostheses such as artificial knee and hip joints.

Body Worlds Vital exhibition celebrates the virtuosity and resilience, wonder, sophistication and fragility of the human body.
