FL: Surfing Festival Includes Easter Egg Hunt, Limbo, Luau and Skateboarding

Cocoa Beach, FL Exit 205 RT 528: You won’t want to miss the 52nd Sundance Ranch Easter Surfing Festival at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach, benefiting The Central Florida Humane Society.

Surfing Competitions will include a Men’s pro short board and a Men’s Longboard, Women’s Short board, Boy’s 14 and under Short board, Girl’s 14 and under short board division, and a Women’s Long board Amateur, there will also be a Dive Surf Ride boy’s and Girl’s Under 12 Menehune’s division.

The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum will host the Florida State Paddleboard Championship, and a king of the beach competition.

Spectators will have a chance to learn surfing and skate boarding via the on site Ron Jon Surfing School’s surf clinic, and attend a skate clinic and can participate in the festivities: celebrity signings,  Easter egg hunt, evening entertainment – a Cocoa Beach style Luau, live music, “Limbo King Title” challenge, watch the Dog lure chase, fashion shows, silent auction and a Sunrise Service at the beach site.

CT: Celebrate Your Inner Irish at the Mystic Irish Parade

Mystic, CT Exit 90: Each year, a sliver of Ireland is brought to the small town of Mystic, Connecticut. The annual Mystic Irish Parade has 2000 participants and 30,000 spectators enjoying the festivities, making it the largest single day event in the area.

Kicking off at 1:00 pm, the three hour long parade celebrates Irish heritage featuring bands, floats, over-the-top carnival costumes, dignitaries, national acts and local groups.

Parade Route begins at Mystic Seaport and travels through downtown Mystic.  This is a fun event for all ages, so bring a chair or blanket and sit along Main Street and enjoy the Irish entertainment go by.

VA: Civil War in Washington Tour

Alexandria, VA Exit 177: The Washington DC area was an armed camp during the Civil War and many of its significant military sites remain in good order.

Visit Fort Stevens where President Lincoln came under fire from General Jubal Early’s confederate forces. Next it’s onto The Lincoln Cottage, The Camp David of its day. Lunch will be provided at the Fort Myer Officer’s Club or Army Navy Country Club.

Begin the afternoon at the Lee Mansion at Arlington, home of Robert E. Lee when he resigned his commission in the Union Army. Next visit Lee’s Boyhood Home, the site of the first Civil War casualties, and Fort Ward, the most intact of the 68 defensive forts that surrounded Washington during the Civil War.

GA: Savannah Stopover Music Festival Features Over 80 Bands (including a Glockenspiel)

Savannah, GA Exit 99: Each year, hundreds of bands make the long trek down I-95 headed to Austin’s prestigious SXSW Music Festival. Savannah Stopover Music Festival presents traveling musicians with a welcoming place to perform en route.

The three-day festival merges music, visual arts and technology in an intimate, historical setting. Music fans can hop from venue to venue, with their (purchased in advance), reasonably priced  3-day, 2-day or 1-day pass to attend any show, with beer in hand, keeping track of all of their favorite new acts (you can drink in the streets, as long as you stay in the historic district).

Showcasing more than 80 bands with a variety of musical styles: Indie Rock, Pop, Dance, Folk, Hip Hop, Electronica, Blue Grass, Singer Songwriter and Country Rock. They guarantee you’ll see at least one glockenspiel and someone playing a saw.

Tickets WILL NOT be available at the door, only pass holders can enter the venues. Most venues have a capacity of 300 or less and entrance is always ‘space permitting’.
