VA: Sound and Light Xmas Show Inside your Car Plus Santa’s Village

Doswell, VA Exit 98: As you drive through the Meadow Event Park to take in the Illuminate Light Show & Santa’s Village, you will experience hundreds of thousands of LED lights synchronized to music from your car radio. The show features an 80-foot tunnel of lights, 50-foot Christmas trees, dancing snowmen and singing Christmas trees.

After the show, spend some time in Santa’s Village where fun awaits for the whole family. There will be photos with Santa, children’s activities, Christmas trees and food. It stays opened until Dec 24th, Santa departs Dec. 23rd (he has lots of work to accomplish at the North Pole!).

NH: Past Traditions in Candlelight Stroll through Historic Homes

Portsmouth, NH Exit 7:  The 35th Annual Candlelight Stroll at the Strawbery Banke Museum showcases 350 years of seasonal and holiday traditions against the backdrop of the museum’s historic houses.

On these weekend evenings, the museum grounds glow with hundreds of lighted candle lanterns, the houses are adorned with thousands of hand-made decorations crafted from live greens and dried flowers and herbs collected from the museum gardens, and the air is filled with the sound of holiday music and scent of woodsmoke.

Visitors stroll from house to historic house, greeted by costumed role players and performers who recreate the traditions of times past, rediscovering the joys of simpler times.IMG_2504

Some highlights include: live music and holiday entertainment for all ages, horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday decoration demonstrations, traditional barrel making demonstrations, 18th century holiday hearth cooking, and tinsmith demonstrations.

RI: Learn to Paint Animals at the Roger Williams Zoo

Providence, RI Exit 16N or 17S: Create your very own masterpiece at Roger Williams Zoo’s Paint Night at the Zoo.  The workshop is designed to guide budding artists of all skill levels step by step through creating artwork depicting flamingos, peacocks, elephants or giraffes.

For $35, they’ll provide everything you need: canvas, paints, brushes, a smock and even a glass of wine for participants 21 and older. This is a 16+ event.

Space is limited, and pre-registration is required (there is a waiting list for events that are full).
