Museum of the Confederacy and White House is the home to the world’s largest collection of military and domestic artifacts of the Civil War Confederates including the personal belongings of Generals and common soldiers. There are guided tours of the White House of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis’ executive mansion.
Walking around, you can see General Robert E. Lee’s tent, uniform and sword, or Stonewall Jackson’s blood stained handkerchief and forage hat and General J.E.B Stuart’s thigh high boots and plumed hat.
Davis’ White House opens to an original painted canvas entrance floor, and is decorated a bit fussily with the faux marble of the time in wallpaper and cornices. There’s a grand dining room, Jefferson Davis Jr’s, “real” toy cannon and surprisingly a George Washington portrait. The museum shop has tons of books, soldiers, CD’s and cards.
