Switzerland, Lucerne: Cute Swiss Army Guy

.

The Swiss Army marketers sure know how to make you smile, stop, take a photo, and yes, perhaps walk in and buy something. Okay we bought a Swiss Army Knife. One of my favorite gifts has been the Swiss Army card; It’s the size of a credit card, fits in your wallet and has the necessary gadgets hidden in it.

Great Britain, London: Harry Potter Train Platform

.

When in London, kids make a pilgrimage to the Kings Cross tube station where Harry Potter left for Hogwarts on special platform numbered 9 3/4. When we first visited this spot, a decade ago, there was the simple sign on the wall. It was a real treasure hunt to find it in the station.
Nowadays, it’s very easy. Just look for the giant lineup of kids and their parents willing to pay to take photos in front of it – AND- the very busy shop next door selling everything Harry Potter possible. You don’t need to pay to get into the Tube to get to this part of the station.

Great Britain, London: Flower Wall at the Shard

Who would expect flowers to be growing on the wall of the 72nd floor of a building? Great photo op at the Top of the Shard in London.

Great Britain, London: What is the Shard?

.

The Shard is the newest tourist attraction in London and it was fabulous. You lift off in multiple elevators to get to the 72nd floor where there are 360 degree views, viewing platforms, selfie options, a flower wall, and a café. You can walk down to the 68th and 69th floor for more views. Notice here the Tower Bridge, the snaking path of the Thames and the London Eye.

Great Britain, London: Queen for a Minute

.

We loved the way you could maneuver the reflections in a glass case in Kensington Palace to look like you are wearing Queen Victoria’s crown.

Great Britain, London: The Shard

The newest, highest tourist spot in London is called the Shard. You go up up up to the floor 68, 69 and 72 to find a garden of Eden, with a snack bar and plenty of photo ops. Since it is almost twice the height of any other view in the capital, it offers wowy 360-degree views for up to 40 miles. Free on the London City Pass.
