Canada: Sault Ste Marie, Ontario – Group of Seven Food

At the Heritage Discovery Center we were treated to a meal described in the journals of Group of Seven painters who created their art here about a hundred years ago. The first course for us had been an entire meal for them – about ten pounds of onions. Though it doesn’t sound tantalizing, it was scrumptious, as they caramelized the onions and served them with homemade bread and butter.

Canada: Sault Ste Marie, Ontario – Scottish Pub in Sault Ste. Marie

Total fun to meet a guy in a skirt in a pub. The owner of The Whisky Barrel struts it in his kilt as he got to follow his dream to open a Scottish pub. So sure there’s Haggis and Shepherd’s Pie but also fun whisky ice cream.

Canada: Sault Ste Marie, Ontario – Indian Fare at Rasoi

These are North Indian hot (both ways) appetizers served up in an adorable cart. I love it when you eat in a restaurant where you wind up with a collage of ethnic flavors which highlight Canada as a wonderful kaleidoscope of people. The butter chicken poutine says it all – east meets west in Sault Ste. Marie at Rasoi. In Hindi that name means kitchen, and the northern Indian fare here comes straight from home traditions.
