Fun Facts: Connecticut is commonly referred to as the “Constitution State”. The official flower  is the “Mountain Laurel” and the official tree is the “White Oak”. The capital of this state is Hartford. The name of this state derives from the Native American word Quinnehtukqut. This word is translated as “beside the long tidal river” referring to the Connecticut River.  Connecticut is the first state to issue license plates for vehicles. This began in 1937.  George W. Bush, born in New Haven on July 6, 1946, is the only US President born in Connecticut.
