GA: Experience Southern Hospitality Close to Nature at Blue Heron Inn

Darien, GA: Exit 42N to hwy 17 or 58S: The newly rebuilt Blue Heron Inn, on the edge of the Georgia Coast in Darien, is a place to relax and appreciate nature. This coastal bed and breakfast sits on the perimeter of expansive marsh and winding tidal creeks and is the closest accommodations to Sapelo Island ferry and visitor center.

Surrounded in colonial coast beauty, the grounds are great for strolling, exploring and taking in this natural habitat. Walk the trails and quiet roads by the inn for birding and catch a glimpse of the Sapelo Island Light House. Kayaks for guests’ use and bicycles are available. Harris Neck Wild Life Refuge is a short drive from the inn as are other nearby wildlife refuges for birding.

Each guest room opens to a porch or deck with breathtaking views of the endless tidal creeks, the estuaries of Georgia’s coast and barrier islands and stunning star gazing at night. The large comfortable rooms are decorated with coastal elegance, a king size bed, private bath, flat screen TV, free wifi and individual temperature control.

A full breakfast is served each morning. The sweet potato pancakes and lime french toast are delicious and worth the trip. The helpful Innkeepers, Bill and Jan are happy to assist planning your itinerary, bird-watching or in getting onto nearby Sapelo Island. The landscape is spectacular from sunrise to sunset. This B & B is southern hospitality at its best.
